Northern New Jersey Black Nurses Association (NNJBNA), an affiliation of the National Black Nurses Association, is a professional organization on nurses committed to addressing health disparities, and improving the health status of African Americans within the state of New Jersey. Six (6) visionary black nurses founded the organization in 1988. Since its inception, the organization has awarded numerous annual scholarships. As a part of their goal to address and improve the health status of African Americans, NNJBNA provides a platform for black nurses to further educate, advocate, empower, and mentor one another.
The NNJBNA Scholarship honors academic achievement, leadership, and community service. The scholarship also recognizes financial need.
Applicants for the scholarship must be:
*An African-American Descent
*A New Jersey resident enrolled in an accredited nursing program full-time
*Demonstrated academic achievement with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in a nursing curriculum
*Described leadership ability , community services/civic involvement
*Described financial needs (copy of most recent tax return with social security number removed or blacken out)
*Documented financial expenses
*Willing to join NNJBNA, be mentored and carry the vision of the organization
*State why you are applying for the scholarship
*Provided an original transcript or (unofficial) signed by the director or counselor
*Two letters of reference (supervisor, faculty, counselor, director, etc)
*Submit a written typed scholarly double-spaced essay between 500-750 words on why you desire to become a nurse and what contributions you plan to make to the nursing profession
*Provide passport-type photo
All applications must be typed and received by the Deadline October 1st, 2017. Late or incomplete applications WILL NOT be accepted. No exceptions!
NUMBER AND AMOUNT OF AWARDS
The number and amount of awards varies depending on available funds and the discretion of the scholarship committee. Money will be sent to the school of nursing after the recipient attends two consecutive meetings.
The scholarship committee will make the final selection (s).
